Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

Two of Kaguya’s suitors die in their attempts to retrieve items on her list. The remaining three suitors discuss the situation, including the emperor’s involvement. One of the suitors decides to create a fake Sword of the Seventh Celestial Generation as no one would be able to prove that it is real or not. However, when he presents the elaborate sword and stand to Kaguya, she reveals that she invented this sword, meaning it doesn’t actually exist.

The man reveals his failure to the other two suitors. They then observe the emperor entering the residence ground.

A bit back, the emperor reports to Tsukasa that Kaguya wants to see him, thanks to Tsukasa’s love letters. She urges him to be cautious as Kaguya will probably end things if she learns the emperor didn’t write the letters.

Back in the present, Kaguya thanks the emperor for his lovely letters. She examines him and declares he’s not what she expected. In that light, she asks if he actually wrote the letters. Despite Tsukasa’s warning, the emperor tells the truth and his inability to write such prose. Kaguya teases him that she wouldn’t have known if he lied. However, the fact that he couldn’t tell a lie means that his feelings for her must be real.

Witnessing this, the three suitors leave.

Telling the Truth

One of the interesting elements in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 201 is the moral of the story — telling the truth. This came in two parts. The first came from the one suitor who assumed the unique sword he was to find was real. He also assumed that Kaguya had told him the truth, but she’d have no way of knowing if what he presented was the real thing or not. Since there never was a unique, named sword for the suitor to find, then him “finding” it gave light to the lie.

The second part came from the emperor. Tsukasa had advised him to not admit that he’d not written the love letters. And yet when pressed, he told the truth. He went against Tsukasa’s advice, even though to date, she’d been spot on. The emperor was willing to lose a chance at marrying Kaguya rather than lie to her. That isn’t an easy thing to do and Hata-sensei does a great job showing the emperor’s internal debate.

I also liked how Hata-sensei had the three surviving suitors witness the emperor’s conversation with Kaguya. The guy who’d lied and brought the sword seemed to lament his lie. And I believe it was he who told the others they should leave and the emperor had won Kaguya’s heart.

That aside, I agree that honesty is always the best course of action. And apparently, so does Hata-sensei.

In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 201 continues the interesting backstory of Kaguya and Tsukasa’s involvement in that tale.
